30 Blogs in 30 days: Day 1: 20 Random Facts

I am stealing this idea from my good friend Becky Chambers. It's a great way to get your blog readers to know you, and, what I'm thinking, is for me to reflect on things about myself as well! So, here it goes! :)

And, if y'all know me, y'all know I have every intention of seeing this to the end. However, I'm gonna be honest & say that it won't be an every day thing... but I will definitely attempt to do each day! Deal? Deal!

Day 1 is pretty fun! It's 20 random facts about me!

1. I am a therapist. 
2. I lived in Boone, NC for three years, but I HATE cold winter weather. 
3. I stay far far away from scary movies or I'll have nightmares.
4. And by scary I mean movies with massive tidal waves or end-times scenarios.
5. There is no sport I care to watch on television.
6. I am extremely impulsive. Especially when it comes to cutting and coloring my hair.
7. I judge people if they misuse they're, their, and there. I also hate to see misspelled words. But I am completely ignorant when it comes to grammar.
8. I feel the absolute NEED to go to New York City. 
9. I want a yellow room in every future home of mine. But a very particular shade of yellow.
10. I don't have any close girl friends that I've had even almost my whole life. And this makes me sad.
11. I have some seriously crazy family members. 
12. My Pawpaw is the best man I know, and I want to be just like my Mawmaw when I grow up. 
13. I don't think I will ever be able to quit drinking yellow soft drinks. 
14. There's a good percent that I will lose my eyesight someday. And that's okay with me.
15. I get emotional when retelling stories... of special moments on television. Especially when discussing series finales. Dumb, I know. 
16. I am one of the few people who don't feel the need to bash my hometown.  It's done nothing to me and I actually love my little hometown.  I don't necessarily wish to always live here, but there's absolutely nothing I have against it.  Lincolnton has a special place in my heart. :)  
17. I've been dating my boyfriend {on and off} for 9+ years. And I want to drop kick anyone who asks me why we're not engaged.  If you're wondering, let me know, & I will give you his phone number & you can ask Alex yourself. ;)
18. My dog is completely psychotic. 
19. I can not stand the new Lily character on Modern Family. Am I the only one?!
20. I basically don't know how to do much of anything domestic. I'm going to make a horrible wife. Which probably has something to do with the answer relating to #17. But I want to learn!! I get points for that, right??

365 Project: Day 2: Baby gets a bath

 

Baby got a bath, hated me for a solid hour, but then was the happiest dog afterward. This is how it always goes. She shivers in the tub the whole time out of fear {like I've tried to drown her before or something!} and then won't look at me for a good period of time after I get her out of the tub. Anyways, this is her, after her bath. Looking like a wet dog but can we PLEASE focus on the size of her pupils?! Geez Louise!!

20 random facts!

I got this idea from my cute friend Maggie, and I'm bored, afraid to go to sleep because I know SOMEthing crazy will go down tonight in my building when my "crazies" {formerly called freshmen residents} return from their Halloween partying, so... here are 20 RaNdOm facts you probably don't care to know about me, but will learn anyways! :)

1. My Godson was born! Welcome to the world Corbin Blake Jervis! I can not WAIT to meet you!
2. I am absolutely LOVING my practicum at Maiden High School. I would love to work there in the future.
3. I have a fear of being an elementary or middle school counselor. Lord, please provide me a position in a high school!!
4. I have been listening to non-stop Taylor Swift since I bought her new CD Monday
5. Buying that CD was the first CD I have purchased since middle school
6. I don't love love love the songs AS much since reading this article {but that obviously hasn't kept me from listening}. Now some of my favorite songs I believe were written to total toolbags who don't deserve her time of day.  :/
7. My dog, Baby, got a haircut Friday and I swear it made her look like she lost 5 lbs.
8. Baby's also probably going to flunk out of our dog training class at PetSmart
9. I can't paint my own nails to save my life.
10. Alex and I have been going to high school football games on Friday night and I have to admit, I've enjoyed it. :) 
11. I believe November will be way better than October! 
12. I know I'm "young" but I am an old soul :)
13. I don't want Winter to start! But when it does, that'll mean I'm so so close to be done with classes!
14. Next semester might kill me. (I think I say that every semester...but I mean it this time)
15. I wish I had a sister.
16. I want a Dyson Animal Ball vacuum cleaner so so bad. I hate my vacuum cleaner. 
17. I'm going to miss watching Teen Mom and Jersey Shore with Maria. Don't fear though... we will move on to 16 & Pregnant.
18. I really really really really really need to devote an entire day to school work I've been avoiding!
19. I have a 4.0 GPA in graduate school. I'm proud of myself.
20. I wonder every day where I'll be come August 2011. May 2011 really.... Lord, show me!

Happy Halloween!

As you know, I'm not a big Halloween fan. I don't think I'd ever spend personal money on buying Halloween decorations. Now Fall is a completely different story and if you know me or you've seen my apartment, you know money is well spent on Fall decor. ;) But Halloween...nope! Not so much! I can see you decorating the weeks up until Halloween, but that would overshadow my beloved Fall, leaving Fall only to be decorated from Halloween to Thanksgiving- which is just not acceptable. {OMG I'm starting to sound like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. Side note: Alex and I watched a whole disc of that tonight! I am LOVING that show! Thanks Maria!}

Anyways, this makes year #2 I've been living in the dorms during Halloween, so, celebrate it a little bit I must! This is the 2nd year we have had a Halloween party in the building, so I had to dress up as SOMEthing! I didn't want to spend any money on it, or at least didn't want to spend upwards to $20 on something. Last year I bought a "mummy" t-shirt on clearance at Wal-Mart to wear to the party...

But this year, I wasn't too sure of what to do. I got some great ideas from friends on Facebook- but the best {cheap} idea of all came from an employee at Maiden High School {where I'm doing my school counseling practicum}.

For a total of $4 I bought a black t-shirt on clearance at AC Moore and a scrap of fabric at Wal-Mart and made my Halloween costume.

Add a little black shimmer eyeshadow I had in my collection & voilà! I was a "black eyed pea" this Halloween!!

The Halloween party was a definite success. ... It wasn't all what RAC {who planned the party} had planned but I tried to warn them it wouldn't. We did get smart though & have a $50 raffle at the end to entice residents to stay until the end! We had a good number of residents come in costumes too...so that was awesome! Here's some pics from the night's event.

I am back! {Totally random update}

So, if you know me, you know that summer school kicked my butt this summer! I have been either been working at the gym or working on school work literally almost all summer! It has not been fun. I am grateful for my $job$ though because it gave me an opportunity to get some school work done.

A lot has gone on since I last really got to blogging...I can't go into too too much detail right now, but pray for my family!

Soon I'll be finding out where I'll be doing my practicum {job shadowing} for the Fall. Either way, I recently met and discussed high school counseling with the fabulous school counselor at Maiden High School. I would love to do both my practicum and my internship in the Spring there, but if not, it will be at North Lincoln High School, so, no complaints there! I've heard great things about the counselors there. It's where my brother went to school. It's a new facility with a low turn-over rate...so either way, the Lord is blessing me! I never thought I would say this...but I think I might want to be a high school counselor!! Eek!! We'll see how this practicum & internship go...

Doggy training's doing well! We go to lesson #3 tomorrow night. My dad said you can't teach an old dog new tricks but, we'll just have to prove him wrong! ;) I love Lisa at PetSmart in Hickory who's doing the training. I highly recommend their training program with her there!

I got my Isenhour roster this week for the Fall. We are going to be a PACKED HOUSE! Every room is filled, every spot is filled...even the old show room! This is going to be an interesting year....I can see it now! I have faith in my staff though! Hopefully it'll be another fun year!

Crate failure #2

Imagine my surprise when I saw this when I first walked into the door:

That's the bottom of Baby's crate, that obviously wasn't locked in. Notice one of the two treats I left her still on the pan after my return, four hours later. And she LOVES those treats...

This adorable furry face met me when I walked into the living room. She flipped her bed over and was hanging out in the bare cage. Grr! Oh well, her loss...she is going to have to learn to love it!

Funny story: Later on, I was sitting on the couch and she got up and walked over to her crate. She started sniffing around, got BACK IN IT, sniffed some more, and then found the other treat I had left her, and ate it. She didn't eat either one while I was gone, but was sure to go back and get the two treats when she was a free bird.

I can already tell this whole experience is going to be a memorable one. :)

Doggy Lesson #1

Mom joined me today for Baby's "doggy lesson" numero uno! Gotta love Moms! If Baby isn't hanging out in Hickory with me, she'll be staying with my Mom, so, we needed two pairs of ears listening to Ms. Lisa at PetSmart...not only to make sure we remember everything, but mainly for much-needed consistency!! Of COURSE I set my alarm wrong {or something!} and woke up 15 minutes before it started. The only reason we were 5 minutes late was because I forgot her vaccination record at the apartment and didn't realize it until I was a couple minutes down the road. Thank you Lord for blessing me with green lights, little traffic, and pushing my gasless car all the way {first} to PetSmart and {then} to the gas station! And {of course} poor Baby decided to get car sick as we pulled into the parking lot. My dog has impeccable timing!

There were only 3 of us in the group training this morning...Baby, a newly adopted Mango {who was a-dorable!}, and CoCo {yappiest dog ever}. Funny story...Lisa {the dog trainer} asked Coco's "parents" if they were married {I don't know why but I remember there being a reason.} and the woman abruptly and sternly said, "NO!" ... Uhoh. Someone sounds like they're in the dog house {no pun intended}! The poor man, I felt sorry for him... they were both on disability, living together, and he was the one that was going to be taking car of her dog because she, again, was disabled. I think I'd be a little nicer to my live-in assistant if I were her! But that's just me...

We learned all kinds of cool things today and I hope Mom can continue to join me! It was fun for us to be able to do it together. I have homework to do until our next doggy lesson on Thursday and any time I leave the apartment {and can't take Baby}, then she'll be chillin' in the crate until I get back!

Another {almost not-so} funny story: Alex brought Baby to Hickory last night. I had her new crate home all filled, cute, comfy, and ready to go. Alex and I went to the Hickory Crawdads game last night and I'll be darned if as we passed her crate to walk out the door, she wasn't knocking her food and water over in it, on top of her bed and "security blanket." I fussed, "BABY! and THAT'S why you're going to training in the morning!" and then Alex and I left her there. She'll have to learn her lesson.

One thing I did learn this morning is that I need to get her on a feeding schedule, only feeding her twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. We don't over-feed her, we just lay the food out and she eats it when she wants to. She doesn't get the bowl replenished more than twice a day. So! With that said, there will be no food left in her crate for her to toss about when I leave, which means no food for me to clean up when I return! :) Sounds good to me! I feel bad not leaving her any water...but the trainer suggested she'd be fine. Lisa said, "She's inside, in the A/C.. she'll be fine while you're gone, just offer her some water when you get back." So, we'll try that! Alex asked me if we could get her one of those hamster water bottles to have her suck out of off the side of the crate. I'm pretty sure they don't make those for dogs, but I could be wrong...

baby goes to school...

So, Baby's going through some serious separation anxiety when I bring her to stay with me in Hickory. My apartment was recently recarpeted so, there's no more room for foolishness! I have decided that an old dog can and will be taught new tricks and am enrolling Baby in "doggy lessons" {as I am calling it}. We start this Saturday morning and I can't wait to see how it goes! I'm already loving the lady who is going to be teaching them. Cross your fingers for me! :) and for her! My poor Baby's in for it and she has no idea...

Random update at 5AM

So earlier on Facebook, I posted a status saying something along the lines that I needed to get this paper written because I can't stay up until 4 AM again tonight and that by that time, my body would be on strike. Well, I guess it is- with a surprising twist! I finished ALL MY WORK FOR THE SEMESTER :D around 1:00 tonight, and have not been able to sleep since. It's a quarter til FIVE now. Ugh!

I have GOT to get on a better sleep schedule than this. {I think I've been saying that since the beginning of time.} But now that I'll have a semi-break for a few weeks, I really want to work on that. Also, be prepared to get some Facebook messages in your inbox saying that I have added new devotions to ten minutes to get you through your day. :)

I have written 36 pages of papers this weekendish and my brain is officially o-f-f. I'm awaiting my Statistics grade and, well, I'm afraid I might lose my 4.0 GPA. (Stats sucks and I'm SO glad I'll NEVER have to take a stats class again. {I think I said that before. Uh oh.} We shall see. (UPDATE: I made an A!)

I want to give a lil post-birthday shout to my bestgirlfriend, ALE ARCE. I view days as from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. I haven't gone to sleep yet, so, Ale, guess what! It's still your birthday! :) I hope you had fun out celebrating!

Random thought: I want to adopt a dog at an animal shelter!! I have Baby, which is MY baby. I love her to death. But, that doesn't mean I want her to be an "only child" forever. ONE DAY, when I have a permanent place of my own, and Baby's all settled in, and not going ballistic on my blinds, then I would love love love to go rescue a dog from the pound.

Okay, I think I might sleep now. Blogging is the new counting sheep.

my beautiful day

As most of you in North Carolina know, today was a BEAUTIFUL day! I am off Friday & Monday of "this week" for Easter & am loving the four-day weekend!!

Funny story: Alex has been working all week {gosh I'm so glad he's working now!} and I'd had the f-l-u :( so, needless to say...we were apart all week. :/ He had today off too {he is loving the idea of paid time off!} so he decided to come see me last night in Hickory. We went for a long walk around campus {it was gorgeous yesterday too!} & then got some Subway to go & ate dinner at my apartment while watching the Carolina game. Well, after dinner, Alex says to me, "Okay, you're done eating. Now go pack so we're not here all night." He knows it takes me for-ever to pack to go home for any length of time. Well, of course, five hours later, we left. Story of our lives. :)

So today I woke up to freshly cut strawberries sprinkled with sugar. Did I ever tell you that I LOVE coming home to Mawmaw & Pawpaw's?!?! :) After being lazy for a little, I went & picked Baby up from Mom's house & took her to "the farm" as I call it to her {which is really Alex's house} & spent the day there. He has a lot of land for her to run and play and cows in the back yard--hence why I call it "the farm." But anyways, he has a long trail to {I call} hike on and it's about a 2 mile walk to the barn & back. We took Baby with us and she had a BALL! After we came back, all three of us were wanting some water so we stopped by his house and dropped the dog off and then headed back for round two!

Trust me, this is no "walk on the track/treadmill" two mile walk. Baby definitely couldn't have handled round two! She was hilarious....as we were walking back to his house it wasn't until we got to Alex's neighbor's yard when she just quit walking and plopped down in the grass. I think that was her way of telling us she was DONE! :)

Then we washed my car & went to see his cousin's new baby, Charlotte! :) I love that name...makes me think of Sex & the City every time. Charlotte is my FAVORITE! Alex grilled salmon for dinner & it was de-lish :) After that I attempted to beat level 4 and/or 5 of Blip Bloink for an hour while he watched Smallville & was unsuccessful. MAN that game is intense!

I need to be working on getting to bed at a decent hour and all that fun in the sun today really helps! I called him around 10:30 and said I was going to bed!! I can't wait for tomorrow. :) I love spending time with "my babies".. ♥ :)

Total randomness

The past two weeks have been CRAZY busy! Last night, at about 11:45pm, as I was on my way back to my apartment after almost six hours of "class", a staff meeting, finishing up RA selection stuff, and finally getting dinner it hit me: I'm done! (For the week at least!) It just felt so so soo good to not have anything to do.

Alex came to see me today in Hickory and brought Baby with him! Poor them... she threw up in his car on the way! :( (She does that from time to time, still.) I love love love having her, well them :), here with me! We three spent the entire day being completely lazy and I absolutely loved it! He stayed with her while I had a group meeting and had to run some errands. I hate leaving her here by herself because this isn't her normal environment and I've heard her do that doggie cry after I left her alone in my apartment. That KILLS me!  But anyways, us girls are having a sleepover tonight and will probably spend all day tomorrow packing because tomorrow I get to come home for an entire week for Spring Break! I am really looking forward to not having plans, getting to lounge most of the time, getting to see some friends and family, and just get some R&R at home! :) Wow I can definitely tell I'm getting older. I was going to say.. "I'll get to spend my days relaxing with Alex" but I am wishing and hoping and praying that he gets this job he has been interviewing for!

Side note: I must say that Alex has really made me proud. He graduated in May & since then has been patiently waiting for God to place him where He wants him to be & has really been strong at staying patient and staying faithful! I know God will place him in an awesome job soon. Wherever that is, I know it'll be right! :)

Now, RA selection stuff is over (*sigh of relief*), I got an A on my stats test this week!!! & I am 2 completed projects closer to the end of the semester! That feels great!! Let me be honest and say: I bombed the crap out of that stats test! I felt SO horrible about it as I left the classroom that day. I made a whopping 69 on the test! The crazy thing is...the highest grade on the test was an 83, and my 69 curved to an A!!! I was praising Jesus because there's no way in the world I deserved that grade! Alex said, "I hated people like you in college," haha!! I vow to study more for the next test, even though we are given that miraculous grading curve!

 Now, it's Thursday night, the Thursday night before Spring Break, and I'm pretty sure it'll be "one of those nights"...Mark my words... I do hope all my residents will be a little more safer than usual, a little less buckwild than usual! haha
