My day. ... What if?

I had one of those days yesterday when nothing went right. To end the day, I broke my flashdrive. You know, the thing that held ALL my work-related everything and the thing I had NOT backed up since June. This has happened before. You'd think I'd learn. You'd think. Either way, I spent an entire day today in front of a computer, re-doing the notes I had done last week, that were due yesterday, and pulling any documentation I could recover via email. Let me tell you...it was a fun day. Oh, and I stapled my finger this morning. That was a first. I'm not gonna lie, it hurt and it bled. But I had a fuss fest nice lunch with three of my awesome co-workers today. That was the highlight of my twelve-hour-workday. That and telling Paul about the time I cried going down the slopes at App Ski Mountain. Good times, good times.

I really shouldn't complain about my day, but that's what I've been doing. I fit into a size smaller pair of jeans today that I must have bought last year on clearance {because I know I did not wear that size last year.} That's a definite plus! And I laughed the whole way to work listening to Wake Up With Taylor on COSMO Radio and the local Ace & TJ Show {my two favorite morning shows}. That's something to be thankful for, right? ...Right!

I saw this on Pinterest tonight while I was watching two hours an hour and 45 minutes {I wasn't super into The Mindy Project} of comedy TV on FOX tonight. I love me some New Girl and tonight was the season premiere of Raising Hope. I had been missing that show!! Ben and Kate got me LOLing too, so, I'm probably going to add that to my list for now. I totally just got side-tracked {ADHD brain}... What I was saying was I saw this on Pinterest tonight:

Wow! What if??

I just want to say- Thank you, God, for loving me no matter how thankless or thankful I am. Thank you, for all your blessings, even those I find annoying and inconvenient.

It really makes you think, doesn't it? What if?

George W's 9/11 Interview

Disclaimer: One minute I'm blogging about Mary Kay sales, the next minute I am blogging about George W. Bush and 9/11. Welcome to my blog! :) I obviously blog about whatever the heck I wanna blog about. :)

This morning, I'm at home watching the George W. Bush 9/11 interview on National Geographic (which apparently I will be watching a lot more of now, particularly because of my new-found fascination with the Amish population).

So, about this 9/11 interview...

Think what you want about our past President or judge his actions made during that time, if you want, and if you feel like you're in a position to judge anyone. But remember this: he is just a man, just one person, in the same state of shock, and terror, and more overwhelmed than any of us thought we were, and had some super major decisions to make. I don't think any of us would be prepared for a situation like that. And I'm glad I wasn't the one that had to deal with all that stress, fear, and turmoil.

Here's some great George W. Bush quotes from this interview that I felt led to share :::
"My first reaction was, "Whodahell would do that to "Amurica""?"
Now, this isn't as serious as the following quotes, but I thought this was appropriate. This just shows that he is human. He is man. And he is Texan. I love George Bush's accent, and it's only appropriate that SNL makes fun of it, because I mean dang, it's country as heck! Okay... back to some seriousness...

In regards to him being informed of the terrorist attacks while he was in front of a small group of elementary-school children:
I think it's so judgmental for people to comment on his reactions in the classroom [in front of the CHILDREN] after he heard the news. I'm glad he specified why he did what he did though [for those of who like to judge]. He said he knew a lot of people were going to be watching his reactions to these crises. He said he made the decision not to jump up immediately because did not want to rattle the kids. He said he had a moment of clarity in the classroom with those children, that his job was to protect. And I guess in that moment, he thought [and I think a lot of us agree] that it was in those children's best interests for him to keep his cool. Y'all know he wanted to get up, start screaming, panic, and cuss up a storm. And we're going to judge him for sitting there for a few more moments in an attempt to not freak a bunch of elementary school-aged children out???

I didn't know that the first time he addressed the country, it was in the room full of children, parents, and teachers. They thought he was going to compliment them on their school's reading program, but instead were informed that the country had been attacked. What an experience! How shocking! It makes me want to Google that video & see the reactions from those behind him. That blows my mind. Can you imagine?
"The most powerless I felt was when I watched people jumping to their death on TV

and there was nothing I could do about it.
I said, "Let's go to Washington." I wanted to be in Washington DC as the Commander in Chief at a time of war. And I needed to be in the Capitol making the decisions necessary to protect the home land and to recover from the initial attacks. .... And [the head of the Secret Service] said, "You're not going back to Washington." I said, "What dahell you talkin' bout, man? I'm the President of the United States. We're going back. I need to be there."
"We didn't know if there had been any other commercial airlines that had been hijacked. So the first decision I made, on Air Force One, was to give our Air Force orders to shoot down any commercial aircraft that did not respond to our orders to land. It would have been awfully difficult for an Air Force pilot to shoot down a commercial airliner full of our citizens, and yet, that was a decision I made because I thought it was the best way to protect our country at that point in time."
I feel like I'm semi-educated on the events of 9/11 and I did not know that. What a decision to make! And he commented on the guilt he felt when he learned that Flight 93 had crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania, thinking that it was due to those orders he had made until he learned that it was also a terrorist attack. Seriously, this man had so much to deal with this day. He was in charge of our country and it was under attack! Can you imagine the pressure?? The feelings of responsibility?? I can't.
"This is what war looks like in the 21st century."
"You never know what it's like to be a war-time President until the moment occurs. I never campaigned on 'Please elect me, I'll be the kind of war-time chief you'll be proud of. The war came upon us unexpectantly. And at that point in time you just deal with the issues. And there's certain gravity, of course, that comes when you start making decisions that involve life. It wasn't one of these moments when you can weigh the consequences or think about the politics. You decide. And I made the decisions as best I could in the fog of war. But i was determined, determined to protect the country, and determined to find out who did it and go get 'em."
I'm also glad he said that. I never realized until he said that that no, presidential candidates don't focus on their crisis intervention plans, or their history of emergency-handling when campaigning to be President. They focus on money, and their stance on abortion, and what they want to do with welfare, and unemployment. They're all realistic in that sense. I bet none of them know what they'd do when they are put in a position such as this. So they skirt the issue, and hope that if the win, they don't have to find out. And if you are put in a position like this, like George Bush was, then you just do what you've gotta do, and hope it's a good decision.

"One of my concerns, like the concerns of other husbands and/or wives, was, "Was my spouse okay?" Was Laura okay? And my second concern was, "Are our girls okay?" It took a while to find her. She was in a secure location. And it was awesome to hear her comforting voice, and she had talked to the girls, and said they were okay, so, that was a relief for me."
Aww! This [again] just goes to show you that he's human. He's a husband and a father. He's worried and afraid, and just wants his family to be okay too. The comfort of a spouse really is what we probably all want in a time of crisis. And he's no exception.
"It was in this moment that I made the decision that I'm going back to Washington over the objections of just about everybody else. I'd had it. I said, "I need to get home." A lot had developed, and it was important to wrap the day up with a Presidential speech assuring people that the government was functioning and responding, and that we would take the appropriate actions necessary to protect our country. And I damn sure wasn't gonna give it from a bunker in Nebraska. I wanted to give it from the Oval Office. I didn't want the enemy to have the psychological victory of a President speaking from a bunker in the heartland of our country, and not speaking from the Capitol that had been attacked. So I told the head of the Secret Service, "I'm coming home," and they prepared the flight and off we went.
"There were firefighters, police men and women, and rescue workers lining the way. I decided I was going to shake every hand."

“Eventually, September 11 will be a day on the calendar; it’ll be like Pearl Harbor Day. For those of us who lived through it, it’ll be a day that we’ll never forget.”
This really was a great interview. It was completely apolitical so no matter what side of the fence you stand on, if you're an American, I'm sure you'll appreciate hearing it.

Did you see it?
What did you think about it?
Tell me. :)

My Current Favorites

Oh, you know.... took a nap after work & am up at 2:00 AM for the first time in forever.  That nap was much needed but now I'm realizing it may not have been my *best* idea.

So, why not share with you some of my current favorite things?? :-)

::: My new Thirty-One bag :::
I lucked out & got this yellow monogramming before they retired that color. Why in the world they would retire this pretty gold color is beyond me. And I think they retired this print too!! Crazy!! But, this is 31's Retro Metro bag, and it is the best for carrying all my books and folders and crap to work & back every day!! The ONLY thing it lacks is a sturdy bottom. But, I'm going to carry this thing until it falls apart...and so far, it's handling this heavy load PRETTY darn well if I do say so myself.

::: Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara :::
mypinkchic
I {still} LOVE this mascara.  When I began selling Mary Kay, I began using their Ultimate Mascara.  It was my new favorite mascara. Then Mary Kay came out with Lash Love Mascara, and I have not used their Ultimate Mascara since! {No offense, Ultimate!} This stuff gets the exact effect I was looking for in a mascara.  My lashes are darker, thicker, longer looking, and not clumpy! I'll be honest... I would absolutely not recommend the I♥BROWNshade because it is the lightest brown shade of mascara I've ever seen! I would only recommend that if your eyelashes are whiteish blonde & you're not looking for the blacker than black mascara look. BUT- if you want a fabulous mascara, the I♥BLACK of Mary Kay's Lash Love Mascara is a win!!!

::: My Caboodles Neat Freak Grande Train Case :::
The black faux leather case has just enough room for now to hold my cosmetics! I got it at Ulta and it was on sale for $36 instead of $48! I love me a sale, especially on things I searched EVERYWHERE for!

::: Special K Caramel Chocolate Protein Meal Bars :::

Enough said.
::: New Girl on Fox :::
This seriously is one of the funniest shows on TV right now! I love watching it & haven't missed an episode. Alex tries to act all big & bad, acting like he doesn't love the show, but he sure does "LOL" right beside me every week. And Schmidt and Jess are SO going to be TV's favorite couple in the future. Who's with me???

::: K-Love Radio :::
94.1 from Charlotte, NC is such a... "positive and encouraging" radio station (no really, it is).  Some of the DJs are a little corny, but what are ya gonna do/say on a Christian radio station?? I love hearing the stories about how K-Love has helped bring people to Jesus!! And I am always loving their song choice!! Check out the channel on your I Heart Radio app if you aren't in the Charlotte, NC area, plus it doesn't have all the commercials.

Alright, I think those are random enough for ya! Just a few of my current favorites! Nothing totally original, off the wall, or super interesting, but- that's me. :-)

I've been tagged! Q&A time!

Sweet Maggie from A Carolina Love tagged me to do this neat little Q&A that I miss oh so much from those Myspace days. When I always got bored wanted to procrastinate I would  fill out those quizzes. Here's an example of one of those old quizzes {from 2005}. Thanks to Maggie tagging me, you now know totally new & completely random things about me! I know, I know....you're ecstatic. :)

Okay, now, here were the rules.
1. You must post these rules.
2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
And here were the questions Maggie asked me....
1. What is the one item you have to have in your fridge/pantry?
If you know me, you know I am ADDICTED to Mello Yello. It's my absolute favorite drink in the world, and for SOME reason, people don't think stores still sell Mello Yello. Well, they do! I love me an ice-cold can of Mello Yello during a meal. Lucky for me, I rarely finish a can. Therefore, I waste a lot of Mello Yello. But I'd rather waste it than ingest it all. It is a soft drink after all! But, one I have, and always will love. :) Here's proof:
Yes, this is a picture that was taken in my dorm room during my freshman year at Appalachian State. I was {obviously} in love with Mello Yello then...and that was 2/9/2006!! {Don't judge me. I only know this because Webshots tells me when pictures were taken via my old Kodak camera. I just thought it'd be funny to prove my point through a almost 6-year-old picture!}

2. Is there a song that evokes an emotion/memory from you no matter what? (can be a happy, nostalgic, etc)
The honest truth is that every song reminds me of something...some time or some person or some situation I was in or some time in my life. I love that so much because just hearing a song you haven't heard in such a long time can take you back & you can feel those feelings or be reminded of how far you've come just by hearing a song.
Side note: I put this blog on hold and had to take a drive. So I shuffled my iPod during the drive to see what songs on there made me think what. And this is what I found:
Des'ree's "You Gotta Be" reminds me of a summer Saturday in the 1990's, having very little care in the world, feeling encouraged, with the sun shining, and the windows open all throughout the house. It really makes me feel happy, empowered, and carefree. I will always love this song, no matter how silly I think the music video is. Man, I swear I could make such better music videos than 90% of people who actually get to make music videos.

3. What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment to date? Could be personal or professional.
My biggest accomplishment to date would have to be a professional one. I feel like I have not "accomplished" too too much in my personal life, yet. ;) Obtaining my Masters degree in Counseling is something I was determined to do, and did as quickly as possible. I had my mind made up & was motivated to succeed! Of course getting licensed as an LPCA & getting a j-o-b fall right on into this category, because without those two, I can't do what I went to school to do.

4. Would you rather go the rest of your life without ever watching your favorite show/movie or without reading your favorite book?
I would go the rest of my life without ever reading my favorite book again, duh. I've already read it & I seldom read the same book twice.  But I could watch a funny TV show over & over again!

5. Skydiving or bungee jumping?
Skydiving! It's something I think I'm too chicken to do. BUT I think I would love it if I did it. Tori amp; I did the skydiving simulator on campus last year, and it was fun! :)

6. Where is the one place you want to go before you die?
NEW. YORK. CITY.
Seriously, if you know me, or have talked to me in the past....year, you should know this. I have blogged about it and said it over and over again to those around me. I think someone's gonna get tired of hearing about it & just buy me a (one-way) plane ticket. :) Please do.

7. If you had a book written about you and your life, what would you want the title to be?

Dang, this is a toughie. I have absolutely no idea. Maybe "Fabulous Fulfillment" - :)

8. What would you want your 15 minutes of fame to be for?

For donating an organ to someone who really needed it and some really cool ironic or coincidental thing happening between myself & my organ recipient.

9. Is there a hobby or activity you did when you were younger that you've given up, but wish could start again?

I really miss sleepovers with my friends. Staying up all night, talking, doing hair, playing games, prank calling people, you know...typical sleepover stuff. The only time I have a "sleepover" is when I visit my out-of-town friends for a night or weekend and need to sleep at their house, but there's not really sleepoverish things going on...you know, because we sleep. I really valued that time with my friends and miss those days so much.

10. What would be the hardest food to give up forever? (Mexican, Italian, cake, etc.)

Chocolate. Basically anything chocolate.

11. If you could be amazing at one thing, what would you want it to be?

Doing.....this:

Wow! What a trip down memory lane for me! :) I love love love reminiscing.
NOW- onto those who I wish to tag! Note: I'm probably not going to tag 11 people. I know, I'm a party pooper! But I'll tag those who blog the most who I think have the slightest bit chance that they'll wanna do something fun like this too! :)
And I choose...
Meredith from The Davis'
Joy from Just The Three of Us
Ashley from Life With Busy Bea
Winter from Deeper Than The Ocean
Erica from My Life as a Ledbetter
Abby from The Randomness of Abby
Laura from Taylor Tales

Now...your questions are...
1. What is the happiest movie you've ever seen? What's the saddest?
2.  What's the biggest lesson you think you learned in 2011?
3. What bold thing are you just scared to death to try?
4. What is the most out-of-place thing in your purse?
5. What's your favorite app on your smartphone? And if you don't have a smartphone, why in the heck not?
6. Are you Team Kim or Team Kris Humphries?
7. What's one thing you would tell your 16-year-old self?
8. Who is your celebrity look-a-like?
9. What websites do you visit on a daily basis?
10. What's something on YouTube you want to share with others?
11. What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?

Now I can't wait to see who responds! I love stuff like this. :)

Hot Topic: Duggars commemorate their stillborn child

Before I head off the computer to work on my "living simply" I want to share something that came across my Facebook newsfeed. I clicked the link & read the article. I would send you a link to the article, but, in the past, when I've done that on here to share something with you, the link has been deleted or the pictures are no longer working, so I will try to copy & paste as much as I can to share it on here with you {while crediting the site}. Okay, so, it said:

In November, to the surprise of many, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced that the couple’s 20th child was on the way. As the Blaze reported, they encountered a fair amount of criticism, considering the large size of their family, past complications and Michelle’s age (she’s 45).
Sadly, just one month later, the Duggars told the world that they suffered a miscarriage. On December 8, during a 19-week checkup, it was discovered that the child no longer had a heartbeat; Michelle miscarried naturally three days later.
This week, the stars of TLC’s “19 and Counting” held a ceremony for the child, whom they named Jubilee Shalom (she allegedly weighed just 4 oz. and was 6 c.m.), in Springdale, Arkansas. Friends and family converged to help celebrate the life that would have been.
The ceremony apparently included hundreds of attendees. While some might see the family’s actions as a bit odd, others would revere the notion that they valued the life so preciously that they sought to commemorate it.
Following the event, Amy Duggar, the family’s cousin, created a stir when she tweeted a note and picture commemorating Jubilee’s life (she later deleted the message). It read, “RIP precious Jubilee Shalom Duggar! Can’t wait to meet you someday, thank you Lord for giving our family peace.” Mail Online has more:
The photograph shows Michelle reaching out to touch daughter Jubilee’s tiny hand, with the juxtaposition of size deeply moving.
While Michelle obviously displays a fully grown adult hand, Jubilee’s is incredibly tiny, with her palm half the size of her mother’s finger tip. [...]
At the ceremony, a selection of photos – which some might find distressing – were distributed to guests, with one image showing Jubilee‘s tiny feet on Michelle’s hand, with the message: ‘There is no foot too small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world.’
A representative for the family has purportedly defended the photos, saying they were never intended to reach the public (although one of the images is now on the family’s web site). Also, Michelle released an audio letter to the baby, which can be heard below:

Jubilee Shalom Duggar from John Andersen on Vimeo.
The Daily Beast’s Maria Elena Fernandez has more regarding the negative response that has followed these actions:
“It just seems too public and almost seems like, ‘OK, we’re stars, everybody wants to know abut us,’” said Susan Newman, a social psychologist who has taken the Duggars to task for continuing to procreate in two columns forPsychology Today. “From what I know of parents who have lost children, it’s horrific. It’s not something you want pictures of. There are people who will argue with me and say it’s a way of coming to terms with the death. But given the Duggars’ history, their television show, and the way they exploit their children, I just find this a cog in the same wheel. I find it rather distasteful.” [...]
But the cofounder of the nonprofit organization that photographed the stillborn baby at the Duggars’ request said that thousands of grieving parents have turned to the group for its free services, because the photographs help to console them during the worst time of their lives. Cheryl Haggard, who had a son who died after birth because of a condition that went undetected during pregnancy, cofounded Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep with a photographer she hired.
You can read more about the debate here. Regardless of how one feels about the family’s method of handling the loss, suffering a miscarriage is certainly tragic.
Michelle has understandably said that she feels “a great sorrow and grief” though she has peace in her heard. Jim has expressed similar feelings, saying, “we know we will see this child in heaven one day.”

Check the site out here if you want.

I will say, whoever thought of the idea to take pictures of your stillborn child to help you cope with the tragedy of losing a child {because that's what it is} is a genius! I personally find these images moving and inspirational. Look how TINY a HUMAN LIFE can be! It goes to show you that NO MATTER HOW SMALL, God has formed a PERSON from SECOND ONE of conception! That almost fully-formed hand is HALF the size of its mother's FINGERTIP! For those who want to criticize the Duggar family, they need to take their negativity elsewhere! The family might be a little crazy, or, the parents might be, but who isn't??

I've said it before {on Facebook} and I'll say it again:
While I think she's addicted to pregnancy (for real), people need to lay off the Duggars. They live debt free in a house they built themselves, homeschool their children, and teach their children teamwork, the value of a dollar, Christian principles, and responsibility for their actions as well as to care for others. No lie, the world wouldn't hurt from a few more Michelle Duggars.
More power to her them! Who are we to judge??

My new favorite..... Once Upon A Time!!!

So, ALEX of all people convinced me to watch this new show that's on TV. I saw the previews a while back & thought it looked like something I'd definitely be interested in. I mean, it involves fairy tale characters!! But, I just didn't allow time in my schedule to watch yet another show, so, I just never got into it. Every Sunday for the past four Sundays I'd see people on Twitter & on Facebook talking about how much they loved the show, but I just added that to the list of shows that everyone else in the world watches.

Well, Alex, not working, apparently watches a lot of TV during the day. He had watched the first THREE episodes of Once Upon A Time and DID NOT TELL ME! The shock! Haha... He probably didn't want to admit he was watches shows about fairy tale characters, but, that cat's out of the bag now! ;) But, he wanted me to watch it too, so we watched two episodes last night & I. AM. HOOKED!

I've told my mom, grandmother, friend Caroline, friend Lindsey, and friend Ashley about it in less than 24 hours!! Haha.... Can you tell I love it yet?

But anyways, if you haven't watched it yet then get to it!! It's beyond fabulous & it's not a "girly" show AT ALL boys!! It's got all that cool mythical boy crap in it to keep you boys in suspense while us girls look at all the cool details that correlate with the Disney movies. :)

If you've seen this, let's talk about it. I hate when I love something & have no one to talk to about it. Don't you??

Saturday Morning Randomness

Here's some random, bullet-pointed things I wanted to share this Saturday with you!
  • I am loving these strawberry, banana, and pineapple Vi Shakes!! It's a great fruity morning shake...and I'm digging plain-jane chocolate for lunch! I keep forgetting I have peaches in the 'fridge... so I will have to make a peach one for lunch today. And when I say lunch, I mean mid-afternoon... this sleeping-in thing has RUINED me!
  • I didn't go to the gym yesterday. I'm not to the point where I miss going on days I don't go, but I'm to the point now where I can say, "Nicole, you need to go work off that Reese's Blizzard." Now you know what my Friday night included. :) I blame North Lincoln for canceling their football game just because of a little lightning storm.
  • Alex & I couldn't find a movie we wanted to rent, so we started watching How I Met Your Mother Season 1. I've gotta admit, I didn't like all the re-runs at first, but they grew on me, and I was doing some LOL-ing watching Season 1.
  • So I've drank my Vi Shake for the "morning," watched DVR'd episodes of Khloe & Lamar and am gonna head to the gym. I found an awesome Pandora station to get me through an hour on the elliptical! The "Party Rock Anthem" Station! Haha! It is just fun, get-you-pumpin' music! Sounds like something we'd listen to in Spin class. :-D
Have a happy weekend!!

The Wild & Wonderful Whites.....

I'm going to be honest- this is going to be a really long and a really weird blog post. Brace yourself!

So, Drew's girlfriend, Ashton, was telling me about this show/documentary/movie that they watched on HBO called The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

Wikipedia describes it in a nutshell as:
The documentary The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009) directed by Julien Nitzberg and produced by Johnny Knoxville follows the White Family for one year and primarily consists of first person interviews detailing the poverty, crime, addiction and the ramifications of the coal-mining industry on Appalachian society.
Okay, so the fact that Johnny Knoxville took an interest in this family should have been the second thing to warn me {Ashton being the first} but "the ramifications of the coal-mining industry on Appalachian society" meant nothing to me really, other than, of course you figure being secluded for generations can do crazy things in the minds of coal miners and their families.  I seriously had no idea.

The movie was basically a family full of "outlaws" or "rebels", whatever you want to call them- Hillbillys with no moral code and Disability checks to pay for their drug habits is basically what it is.  I could not believe the way some people think- or, how much they don't think.  It seriously is a crazy documentary. Don't believe me? Here's the trailer:

Okay, so, you get the idea now...

These people are FOR. REAL. To the killing people and the grandma covering it up, to the baby being taken by Child Protective Services for being born addicted to drugs, to doing drugs at the grandma's birthday party with the little kid in the room, to having one family member shoot the face off of another. I mean this family is certifiably CRAZY.

With that being said, this sparked a conversation today between a "co-worker" {Ashley from my internship} and myself about....people such as this {for lack of better words.}We were talking about how some people are raised like this from day one and simply do not know any better. Some people don't have any chance in the world. Some people don't have an opportunity for an education or for a way out. Some people live their whole entire lives surrounding in some horribleness and never know anything better. The generations continue and the cycle never ends. That is a cryin' shame, I tell you, but it's the truth!

AND- as I watched this, it pulled at my heartstrings. For instance, the baby born with drugs in its system. That baby was beautiful! It was sitting there in the hospital bassinet with a pretty little pink bow in her hair. And what does the mom do? Crushes some pills and snorts them right there in the hospital room! This was right after she was talking about how she wanted better for her child...she wanted her child to have hopes and dreams, and to make something of herself, have an education, the whole nine yards. I was thinking- How would that baby ever have a chance with you acting like that as her mother?!  I didn't see CPS coming, because there's all kinds of kids in this crazy family, but I'm sure glad they did! There was no way in the world that baby was going to be cared for the way it should be with its mother acting the way she was.

I really DON'T know where I'm going with this...because I could go on a rant about drug abuse, the social security system, cultural sensitivity, it all. But I won't. Unless you just want me to. ;)

But, my point is...this stuff exists. People like this exist. And they aren't only in West Virginia in the Appalachian mountains either. I bet they're in Lincoln County- people acting like this, maybe not as drastic, but maybe. We never know. Drugs fry your brain and make people do THE stupidest stuff- and I think this is a great example. It's also a great example of how poverty and a family's culture can literally hold a person back from obtaining their full potential.

I don't know what I'd do if someone from the White family came into an agency where I worked and was court-ordered to receive mental health services. Holy moley! I'd sure be praying a lot, that's for sure! And if I'm ever a school counselor, I hope that my radar goes off and I notice a child in need- who may not have opportunities, support, resources, love, a good influence, MEDICATION, whatever it is they need to succeed, and latch onto them and do what I can to help them help themselves.

Okay, I think I can hop off my soap box now. :)

TLC Shows, Internship Situation, & Gym Distractions

So, I'm sitting here...winding down from my not-as-busy-as-usual, watching another ridiculous show on TLC. Tonight, we're not watching some stupid British or Irish teenage gypsy girl, planning the over the top wedding of her dreams because that's what she'll be remembered for (because she can't read or write, dropped out of school at age 13, and is doomed to clean her and her super douchebag of a husband's trailer for the rest of her life). No, tonight we're watching stupid moms living vicariously through their five year old daughters who they allow to tell her what each one of them will do, while wearing fake teeth, hair, tan, nails, after their spa facial and emotional breakdown. SERIOUSLY! These people exist! Kudos to TLC for exposing, I mean sharing, the madness because I am hooked!

So what have I been doing? Have I not been blogging because I've been watching TLC? Yes and no. I actually started my internship(s) a couple weeks ago & have been spending a lot of time there....and attempting getting on a real sleep schedule. I had a little "issue" with my internship so, here's the short story:

To work with substance abuse clients, you're legally supposed to be registered with the NC "Substance Abuse Board" (NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board). Some internship sites will let you basically work there for free, getting the experience, and don't care if you're registered with the board or not. My internship site isn't taking any chances, and asked that I be registered before I do ANY, and I mean ANY work with substance abuse clients. I got my internship later in the year, and didn't know I had to register, then had to wait to get the packet, met with my supervisor to fill it out, and it took a week for me to get someone at the police station to fingerprint me, and then I sent it to the board probably the 1st of June. Problem is: it takes about 4 WEEKS to get it back saying I'm officially registered!!! Until I'm registered, all I could do was observe...which is great at first, but my internship's only about 8 weeks long & I can't spend half of that time only observing! So, I'm spending all of my time at my other internship site, which I LOVE, until I'm officially registered with the board. If I get registered before July's over, then I'll get to do some court-ordered DWI groups for offenders. I observed a number of these groups & really am excited about having the {potential} opportunity to do some myself! Fingers crossed! :)
Side note: In the end, it wasn't the police officer's, or the station's fault- so don't hate on them. :)

So, I've been interning! And watching TLC! & GOING TO THE GYM! Alex has been dragging me to the gym and I love him for it. I'm sore as can be today but plan on going back tomorrow. I know it's not a big deal to you, but I ran for 10 minutes straight yesterday. That's a big deal to me! That NEVER happens. There has to be something good on in front of the TV for me to stay focused distracted enough to run more than like two minutes. I lost my iPod's ear buds and music really doesn't do it for me anyways. Wish it did though! I want to download some podcasts or something to listen to to keep my mind off of running {while I run}- it might work!

Any podcast suggestions for me?
Because ESPN seems to be on the TV there all the time, and if you know me, you know that's not gonna hold my attention long.

Oh, and still haven't figured out how to get each blog's "labels" to appear below it. Grr! Feel free to send me a suggestion!

&& Hump Day's over! Enjoy the downhill part of the week! :)

Grey's is not Glee.

Two nights this week I was up until either 2:30 or 3:30 working on {that thing} so I was seriously lacking in the sleep department this week. {Again, what's new?} So last night I came home after class and after getting some stuff at the store with my RAs, and watched Grey's Anatomy. Can I just say a couple things about that??? .... Good, 'cuz I'm gonna!!

I am not a fan of Glee, because I'm not a fan of musicals. I am, however, a {big} fan of music from Grey's Anatomy. Granted,  most of the music I like from Grey's is from the first couple seasons, but, still. When I heard they were doing an episode devoted to the music of Grey's I got super excited! Then I saw the cast was going to be singing the music, and I didn't know how I felt about that, but of course I gave it a chance!

Here was the preview that got me hooked:

Looks amazing, right? RIGHT!

Ohh, about five minutes into the episode I was so over it. Of course I watched the whole thing because I had to know if Callie lived or not, but I was seriously annoyed the entire episode. ABC, you had good intentions,  but Grey's is not Glee. It was a serious let down in my opinion. They hyped it up so much & then none of the cast could really sing! Luckily Callie {or her spirit/body thing?} sang the most and she could sing the best, but still! She's an actress, not a singer. I did enjoy reminiscing past Grey's seasons with some fabulous songs, but they really didn't need to sing them! It would have been WAY better if they would have just played the music. But hey, at least Callie's still alive! Now, if we can just get that annoying Arizona out of there!

& also, I love when they bring Addison back. :)  I'm not in love with her character {or Kate Walsh in general} on Private Practice....but she always swoops in to save the day on Grey's!

Oh and HOW true is this, Grey's lovers? Tonight Alex Karev said, "She works here at Seattle Grace Mercy Death, so I’m sure she’s pretty much gonna go crazy or get cancer, shot by a gunman or hit by a truck. So, don’t get your hopes up for Karev’s big happily ever after." HAHAHAHA. HOW TRUE!

In honor of ABC's attempt at an awesome episode...here's some YouTube videos of the past Grey's songs and memorable scenes that accompany them! :) Enjoy {if you're as big of a Grey's nerd as I am}!!

Here is the music video for the Season 6 premiere after our beloved George died. GAH what an emotional couple of episodes!

This is the first episode of Grey's I ever saw. It's the "bomb" episode & it's also the episode where Dr. Bailey has a baby at the same time her husband is in surgery from a car accident he got into, on his way to the hospital! Yeah, nothing out of the Grey's norm! I think it came on after a Superbowl or something. Anyways, majorly intense episode that got me hooked!

Here's Snow Patrol's official Grey's Anatomy music video for their hit "Chasing Cars"...

And, of course, if you are a true Grey's fan, you have seen this music video by The Fray for their hit "How to Save a Life" a million times like me! ;)

I like {some of} the fan-made music videos on YouTube, but these are some of the official ones... You can't beat them!

If When Grey's goes off the air in the future, y'all might see me wondering around aimlessly on Thursday nights. Just a heads up...

Sunday night chatter

I have just absolutely, positively tried my hardest NOT to do work over Spring Break. I have enjoyed {almost} every minute of it, and had definitely decreased my need for rest. I have done this by napping {I'm pretty sure} every day while I've been home. It's been so stinkin' nice- napping with the windows open, breeze coming in, birds chirping. Some would say they would have rather been outside, but really- what was I going to do outside that I wanted to do more than nap? I mean, come on....I don't think you know how much my body hated me. But, we've talked and, we're back on speaking terms. ;)

Did you catch Coming Home episode #3 tonight on Lifetime? You know I sure did!! I swear, if you're in the mood to cry happy tears, that show'll do it for ya! {Do you like my Southern accent coming out in my blog....."show'll"} But if you haven't heard of it...come out from under your rock! It's a new show on Lifetime that comes on at 10pm on Sundays. It shows real-life surprise military family reunions and they all touch your heart! I haven't heard of anyone {with a heart} watch it without tearing up at least once! I dare you to try it! No but really, watch it. I want to support the show because I know it provides chances and memories like that that wouldn't otherwise be possible....and because I can't get enough of it and the more viewers then {I'm thinking} the longer it'll be on TV. I'd hate to see such an amazing show go off air. Here's a little clip....

Other than that, just looking forward to getting to Hickory tomorrow and getting all my crap done that I can as fast as I can because I get to come home Tuesday & spend the evening with Alex {& others, I'm sure :)} beginning work on the house! He admits that he has no earthly idea what he's doing when it comes to decorating, etc. so I think I'm going to go look at {some more} paint colors tomorrow while I'm out running some errands! I now have more of an idea of what we're doing & what I we want! ;) It'll be interesting, that's for sure! IS IT MAY YET?!?!

The answer is no, Nicole, it's not May. So, until then, I have work to do! Nothing to wake up early tomorrow for so I'm going to get to work, yes at 11:43PM. That's what I do. I'll never learn.

Just a Thursday evening-o-fun!

Today started off so negative & ended on such a good note! THANK GOD! I woke up hurting before I even got out of the bed. Well, I guess that's the definition of "woke up" (still being in the bed, ya know) but moving on... three Aleves and a pain pill later and I was Good. To. Go. I got my errands ran & bought a pretty piece of jewelry from Tori's Premier Jewelry party. My sweet friend, Tori, has supported me through my Premier party & also to my Mary Kay party, so, I must also support her & her attempt to get some pretty {and free!} jewelry! If you are interested in hosting a Premier party, let me know & I will give you the contact info of Jaime, Alex's cousin who sells it. :)

I also gave a new friend, Carlee Carpenter, her free Mary Kay facial tonight! Yep, that's right! 100% free! I really enjoyed it, getting to know a little about her, chit chatting about makeup, teaching techniques I've learned over the years & letting her try something new with her makeup! She looked great! I love helping making girls feel fabulous! And that helps me with my goal to do 30 faces in 30 days...so, hit me up for YOUR free facial!! :)

Meet Carlee :)

The night then ended with my boy RAs coming for a visit to entertain me. No actually, they wanted a free facial...but, I won't get into all that because I told them I wouldn't. But, they were fun to hang out with! They spent the night going through my iPod, telling me "You don't know about no {insert old artist here}"...giving me scenarios of me listening to certain bands...for example, "This is Nicole, driving down the road, mad, listening to {insert rock band name here}." Bradley & all of his masculinity stopped by for a bit, while we waited on Maria to come watch Jersey Shore with us. Bradley's my new RA & quite a hoot!
Michael, Tyler, & Bradley - Ike security! LOL

Jersey Shore wasn't nearly as good as it was last week...but, it sparked some good convo between the four of us! Haha! Which reminds me to say: I sure am thankful that I am in a committed relationship with a trustworthy guy! I can not imagine living in paranoia, fear, and worry that I will be cheated on. Some of y'all girls out there, I don't know how you do it.

Ahh... how a positive attitude and a little pain pill can brighten a girl's day!! :) I am thankful it quickly turned around....I would have missed out on some fun for sure!!

16 & Pregnant

Tonight Erin and I watched 16 & Pregnant on MTV. We missed you, Maria! I look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays, or well, I did, but now I guess it's just going to be Tuesdays....anyways, I look forward to MTV nights. We girls all watch the show(s) anyways...so we might as well watch them together! :) I love our commercial commentaries. Well, tonight there was a girl on there, Felicia, who is, I'm sorry the most passive girl ever. Her "baby daddy" was gone out of the hospital within HOURS of her daughter being born, not coming back until the next DAY, and tell her "damn girl, you move too much" when she's {the only one} getting up in the middle of the night to tend to their newborn baby girl. Ah! This drove me crazy for an hour!

Can we all just take a moment to pray for Felicia? Because it's obvious she's going to be a single mother, she's struggling to graduate HIGH SCHOOL, and she has a LIFE to be responsible for. I would have gone ahead and smacked homeboy in the head for telling me I "moved too much." Seriously, the boy would be dead the minute he attempted to leave that hospital room. What a LOSER!

I don't understand why she doesn't confront him. I mean, she tries to communicate with him when he's home, but she just tells him that she needs him and would like his help. I would be informing that boy he is going to help, starting now!

Did anybody else feel so so sorry for this girl while watching this show tonight? I know I'm not alone! Ha ha!
